Thai–Cambodian border death toll hits 17, three provinces keep shelters

The death toll from the Thailand–Cambodia border conflict has risen to 17, with evacuation centres closed in all but three provinces, state authorities reported on Sunday.

The Ad Hoc Centre for the Thailand–Cambodia Border Situation issued its latest update on August 10, detailing the number of evacuees as of 6pm on August 9.

  • Si Sa Ket: 22 evacuation centres remain open, housing a total of 2,213 evacuees.
  • Ubon Ratchathani: One evacuation centre remains open, housing 55 evacuees.
  • Buri Ram: Five evacuation centres remain open, housing 254 evacuees.
  • Surin, Sa Kaeo, Trat and Chanthaburi: All evacuation centres closed.

According to the Ministry of Public Health’s update at 10am on August 10, the civilian impact from the border conflict is as follows:

  • Deaths: 17
  • Injured: 39 (12 seriously injured, 13 moderately injured, 14 slightly injured)
  • Hospitalised: 3 patients, all in critical condition
  • Health facilities affected: 20 (3 closed, 7 partially open)
  • Subdistrict health promotion hospitals affected: 149 (60 open, 46 partial, 43 closed)
